Here is a d20 modern character generator.

http://www.pathguy.com/d20modern.htm

and the D20 Rules:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/msrd

I will allow you to be anything (with in reason, no ninja circus midgets ) that you could find in Taos, New Mexico.

So far we have: a parapsychologist, a homicide investigator, a rookie swat member, and a detective.

Business that you could work at:

Doc's Auto Repair / A - 1 Automotive Towing and Repair
Cottam's Outdoor Gear
City Hall
Court House
Holy Cross Hospital / Taos Medical Center
Taos Public Library
Wal-mart / Cid's Supermarket
Taos Ski Resort
Taos County Sheriffs Office
Bureau of Land Management
Taos Grade School's / UNM Taos Campus (this is a small aux. campus of UNM)
Taos Fire and Paramedic Department and Search and Rescue
Love's Truck stop and depot
Taos Airport (it's more of a Airstrip and hangers.)
Taos Veterinary Clinic
Home depot
St. Francis Cathedral or other places of worship

Taos' major industry is tourism and sport recreation. There are also a number of farms, restaurants, fast food holes, and souvenir shops all around Taos. Taos is also very well known for its outdoors recreation; hunting, camping, whitewater rafting, climbing, and world famous for its ski resort. As well, Taos is a thriving art community, a pioneer and settler museum Mecca, and destination for the rich and famous trying to get away from the limelight, i.e., Julia Roberts, Donald Rumsfeld.

Sitting on historic Route 64, (old Santa Fe Trail) the small villiage (pop. 4000) of Taos is an ancient city founded by the Pueblo indians, later settled by the europeans, primarily the Spanish. Taos is located 70 miles north of Santa Fe, and 120 miles south of Colorado Springs, which are the two closest large cities. Taos is nestled in betwixt of the southern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which are the eastern range of the Rockies Mountain, and the New Mexico desert to the south. To the east is the mighty Rio Grande Gorge and to the west the desert and plains of the Texas pan handle.

If you have an idea for a character or occupation let me know, and I'll try to work you in.

And someone who rides in the back of police cars.

I guess this means I should rethink the criminal background character as not to be redundant.

I think New Mexico does have more than one criminal, but I'm not sure.  It's does has the highest number of uninsured drunk driver vehicle accidents in the country.

so far we don't have any of these character types:

engineer/ techie / mechanic
doctor / emergency med. persona / pharm. tech
outdoor guide / hunter / search and rescue
politician / clergy (we might have clergy) / pilot

Okay I plan on being the Techie/repair guy/gearhead. Will bring prelim char sheet and background to you Rene. Need to buy book still and may tweak char from what you see but I do have the basics of it.

Then I'll have no choice but to rename my character Group Captain Lionel Mandrake.
