I know nothing of the operating system. I just like the box design.

I used to have one of these.  it was called a TRS -80 and it had  a silver matte black finish.  no clawed feet, however.

It does sound that way. It is one of the more mainstream distros of Linux. So it's kind of like trying to have Mac OS X's graphical interface on top of Unix, but without being nicely designed and useful like Apple's version, with crappy PC hardware and with little good commercial software. Instead of Photoshop you would be stuck with The GIMP.
