Pynchon

I had been trying to decide which Thomas Pynchon book to read next...mostly between "Gravity's Rainbow" and "V.". I really enjoyed a couple of his other books, "Mason and Dixon" and "The Crying of Lot 49", and I'm mostly through with his collection of early short stories "Slow Learner".
Half Price Books decided for me...they only had "Gravity's Rainbow" I'm not too far into it and can't really say what it is about...seems like a WWII dystopia, but I'm not sure.
Anybody read this book or "V."? How about his new one "Against the Day". Or "Vineland? What are your impressions/recommendations?

"Vineland" was the lastest of his I've read, and while entertaining it seemed like something of a letdown given the mindblowing scope of "V" and "Gravity's Rainbow."
I would definitely proceed to "V" once you finish "Gravity's Rainbow." It's an incredible book.

V is the only thing I've read, even though I have Mason & Dixon. It was fanatstic, but I don't think he writes anything but.

Mason & Dixon was great...a little slow to start, but very funny. I especially like the chapter about the robot french duck.

The next Pynchon book you have to read is Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Actually, after talking more with Sanford, I think everyone in America should be required to read China Mieville's Perdido Street Station.

I agree. It really is a phenomenal book.

You can borrow it after Ryan finishes (unless I drunkenly promised it to someone else last nite).
