Killing an Evening (to the tune of "Killing an Arab" by the Cure)

I'm standing on the beach
With my thumb up my ass
Hoping for a kill
Hoping time will pass
Staring 'cross the water
At the wizards on the fly
Maybe they won't win
Maybe they will die

I'm unused
I'm bored
This is strange, man
Killing an evening

I can swim
Across the water
I can fire the sling
Doesn't really matter
If I do anything
Whichever I choose
It amounts to the same
Absolutely nothing

Out of range
I'm bored
This is strange, man
Killing an evening

I could have stayed at home
Could have taken a nap
Staring really hard
At my teeny tiny map
Staring 'cross the water
At the wizards on the fly
At the novelty weapon
(The novelty weapon)

I'm unused
I'm bored
This is strange, man
Killing an evening

Sorry. As an encounter that was badly executed and no doubt mind-numbingly boring for half the party. I blame myself.

Apologies to one and all for a craptacular, poorly prepared session.

"The Great Silence" is an excellent one. In many ways, a superior film to "Django." You will never forget the ending.

"Companeros" was also great. Just got that for Christmas and enjoyed the mixture of Marxist politics with Western action.

The only other one I've seen was "Navajo Joe," which featured an enormous body count (good) but also Burt Reynolds in the starring role (bad).

now now, don't blame yourself if party members want to hang out and hang back or have a picnic or whatever.... remember these are the same guys that didn't want to come in the room and fight the fire elemental whirlpool.... Like the Wizz I too feel sorry for them...a  little strategery would have seen us waiting for them to arrive and setting an ambush...

No our strategy given the circumstances was correct and essentially nullified their fighters, that was the right thing to do. Letting them cross the water to where the civilians were just so the fighters could get their thang on would have just been self serving and irresponsible to those we were trying to protect.

It would have been nice if we could have caught them a little farther back on the road so we could have attacked them from two fronts and got everyone involved, but given the set of circumstances we encountered I think we did exactly the right thing and the results are proof of that.

I disagree. We clearly should have let them get three-quarters of the way across. That way others could have gotten ranged attacks and we would not have wasted the first several rounds trying to close and get them into range. I'm not saying we should have let them storm the bastille, but there was a middle ground that we should have trod.

Personally I was a little surprised the fighters had so little to say about the strategy.

If you don't speak up, don't expect a buncha showboating mages to write you into the plot.

Didn't we win that fight while taking relatively minor damage or did I miss something.

Fighters on the Shore (Yes, The Doors, "Riders on the Storm")

Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore
About this fight we're bored
In this combat we're lost
Like a tick without a host
A molding piece of toast
Fighters on the shore

There are killers on the way
Brand has turned into a toad
Take a long holiday
Let your mages play
If ya give this mage a ride
Many enemies will die
Killers on the way, yeah

Guys, ya gotta love your mage
Guys, ya gotta love your mage
We can't take you by the hand
Make you understand
The world on us depends
Our life will never end ('cept mine several times)
Gotta love your mage, yeah

Wow!

Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore
Out of this place we've flown
Into combat we're thrown
Cummon and give a mage a bone
Dav'l, you could throw a stone
Fighters on the shore

Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore
Fighters on the shore

Yes, but as a consequence of how we won you want to rest after our 10-minute work day instead of getting the people out of here as quickly as possible. I don't feel we need to rest for 8 hours and I think it would behoove us to be on our promptly.
