The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie was quite the enjoyable read. I liked all of the character development and the divergent storylines coming together (and those that have not yet done so). I really liked how, though not told in the first person, the different chapters were presented from the perspective of certain characters and revealed their perceptions of people and events. I loved the character of Glokta the inquisition torturer that you really shouldn't like because he is almost completely unsympathetic and he does some repulsive things but you remain fascinated.

It was fun...I hope nobody has checked out volume 2 yet.

Obviously...it is called "Before They Are Hanged" so I imagine it's all their adventures before being executed.

Well, dang. I guess I'll have to read this series. Putting it on my to-do list.

Gotta finish up Dan Simmons "Hyperion" and Zelazny's "Jack of Shadows" first tho.

I'm mere pages away from the end of book 2 and a long wait until September.

Sanford,

With the exception of the game, this "Literate Geek" thread on the Message Board has to be one of your best ideas.  It seems like it has proven more fruitful than just mentioning to someone, "Oh, hey, this was a good read."  The books that have been passed around because of this. . . well, it makes an English Major tear up.

If not, I have a copy you can borrow, Paul.  I think I may have to break into once you're done, though.  It will be  long time until Sept.

Good, cause I just finished "Before They Are Hanged" last night and it is a loooong time until September. I looked up the next book, "Last Argument of Kings", on Amazon and one reviewer humourously gave it "a bloody nine out of ten".

So...it's September and I'm sure one of you fast-reading gentlemen has purchased and finished "Last Argument of Kings" already. How was it? And  more importantly, when can I borrow it? I'm almost finished with "Looking for Jake" so I'll willingly trade.
