Death may be the greatest of all human blessings.

It's a great collection of short stories by one of the deans of fucked-up Texas SF.
Best stories so far are "Night of the Cooters," which is a basically H.G. Wells' Martian invasion taking place in the bustling metropolis of Pachuco, Texas, and being thwarted by a Slim Whitman-inspired redneck lawman, and "Ugly Chickens," the tale of a UT grad student discovering that the dodo bird may not have gone extinct.
Anybody who enjoys Joe Lansdale would get a kick outta this stuff.

This post seems to be drafted with my attention in mind. And if it's a sick read that you enjoy it's gotta be good. Can't wait to read it.

yeah it seemed to have a lot of stars in it for a simple internal and one and one struggle to live in a dismal world. but I still look forwards to it.

From what I can tell they don't seem to add in stuff that wasn't in the book. But the action scenes from the book do seem more actiony in the movie more so than the feeling the sparse prose would suggest, but it does still look totally bleak and dismal and awful.

Well, I'm all for bleak and dismal and awful. Nick Cave did the music. Good sign.

Have you any idea if he collaborated with Warren Ellis on the soundtrack? He's the violin player from NC's band and from the Dirty Three. The two worked together on "The Proposition" and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." Very awesome and haunting together. If they did work together it would make for a hell of a soundtrack.
