Haven't seen Avatard yet, but Camorron makes big effects pics and not deep stories. CGI doesn't bother me if its in the service of a good movie. I rather enjoyed District 9 and the digital effects didn't bother me in that at all.
Funny thing is any movie adaptation of any of the Bas Lag stories would require some CGI and if thats all you focused on one could see it as more CGI wow-porn, but its the story under that that is important. Sadly most effects pics whether tradition or digital are not telling a deep story. I own a number of Ray H.H. flicks, and while I love them any time one of his creatures appears on screen you can instantly tell they are optically composited into the shot.
The CGI movie I really don't want to see is that horrid looking The Lovely Bones.
